Cape Town Stadium
Designed and built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, Cape Town Stadium seats 68,000 and is located in historic, Green Point Common. An extremely challenging project, the stadium incorporates a complex concrete and roof design resulting in an overall shape paying homage to the traditional South African Venda women. The perforated mesh which runs beneath the glass roof is an acoustic addition which reduces noise as the stadium is located within a residential area. Another two fabrics were used along the inside ring of the stadium’s seating area for acoustic purposes but this time, to amplify the sound of the players on the field. The overall design also takes into consideration the need for water and energy efficiency.
